Tofu Burgers: How to cook Tofu Burgers?

These substantial, full tofu burgers may be made by dumping all the ingredients into a food processor and grilling them. They are spiced with a considerable quantity of cumin, chili, and mustard.

Tofu Burgers Recipe:

I've been cleaning out some drawers in the kitchen. primarily sifting through old magazine clippings (which explains in part why I've been sharing more recipes from magazines than normal). These tofu burgers stood out to me among the many treasures I've been uncovering. They were modified from a recipe submitted by a reader and published in Sunset Magazine's October 2004 issue. Jeremy Wolf of San Francisco sent the recipe to Sunset, and I really liked it! The "put everything in the food processor" method was used to produce them, and a peculiar assortment of Ingredients, including tofu, seeds, and nuts, as well as mustard, cumin, and mushrooms, were required. I've done several versions since then, and I'll go over a couple of them here.

I will say that I believe you will want to adjust the seasonings, and you should! And now for some guidance. Don't skimp on the cumin or mustard; you need some powerful tastes to come through since the base of the burger is made of ground tofu and eggs. Think bold in all you do!

Tofu Burgers - How To Cook Them

These are fantastic in that there are many different ways to prepare them. You can bake them, grill them, or cook them in a skillet. The mixture needs to be blended mostly until it has a somewhat smooth consistency. The ingredients should then be firmly pressed into patties. I ask for the firmest tofu you can find (extra-firm), but the amount of water in each kind varies. Simply incorporate additional breadcrumbs, 1/4 cup at a time, if the mixture is too wet, and proceed from there. Keep in mind that the mixture also becomes firmer as it sits. If you have time, you can let it rest for about 10 minutes before shaping.

Tofu Burger: Variations

There have been numerous attempts to manufacture these without the egg. Here are a few observations from the comments since I haven't tested that version yet. For the vegan, I set aside a portion of the batter before adding the eggs and added an additional tablespoon of breadcrumbs and an almond butter binder. Despite the fact that I was short on eggs, I substituted 2 tablespoons of chia seeds with 6 tablespoons of water. Worked perfectly!

a gluten-free alternative "I make something similar to them and use masa harina instead of breadcrumbs for a gluten-free option," Lisa said brilliantly. It is SO wonderful and really lends it a "southwestern" flavor.

Tofu Burgers: Cooking Tips

Make sure to look for the firmest tofu you can find manufactured from organic soybeans. Add more breadcrumbs, 1/4 cup at a time, if your mixture is still too moist after blending (different tofu kinds contain different amounts of water). Basil, tomatoes, avocado, and a sriracha-ketchup-mayo slather are among the toppings seen. In addition, lettuce wraps can be used in place of bread.

Tofu Burgers: INGREDIENTS

  1. Extra-firm tofu weighing one pound, 16 ounces, or 450 grams, dried and then sliced.
  2. Two huge eggs
  3. Fine-dried breadcrumbs totaling 1/2 cup, 2 oz, and 55 g, plus more as necessary
  4. 2 oz/55 g/1/2 cup cashew nuts
  5. 1/2 cup / 2 oz /55g sunflower seeds
  6. Sliced mushrooms, 1/2 cup, 2 ounces, and 55 grams
  7. 1/9 cup Dijon mustard
  8. 1 teaspoon soy sauce, tamari, or shoyu
  9. 1 teaspoon of cumin, ground
  10. A half-teaspoon of cayenne
  11. Smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon (optional)
  12. 1/8 teaspoon of sea salt, fine grain
  13. Extra virgin olive oil, 1 tablespoon
  14. Any more buns and sauces you desire!

INSTRUCTIONS

  • In a food processor, combine all the ingredients minus the olive oil. If necessary, pause mid-pulse to scrape down the sides of the food processor. Continue pulsing until the mixture comes together and is mostly chunk-free. Add extra bread crumbs a handful at a time if it appears too thin to you until everything comes together.

  • Use your hands to really press and shape the mixture into eight equal sections that are circular but rather flat patties. Make 4-5 patties if you prefer larger burgers. Give it about ten minutes to sit. At this time, refrigeration is also an option.
  • If grilling, lightly sprinkles a little olive oil onto each burger before placing it on a medium-hot grill. Usually, 5-7 minutes on the first side and 4-5 minutes on the other, grill covered. A cooked center should be present. If using a stovetop, place your largest skillet over medium-high heat, add the olive oil, and add as many patties as you can fit without crowding them. Cook with the cover on, flipping once until both sides are well-browned. just over ten minutes. Make sure the patties' centers are completely cooked. Be aware that if the pan is excessively hot, the outside will burn before the inside cooks.
  • Serve your favorite burger toppings with it!
